体がUZU・UZUしちゃって

今日はおやすみ。外は快晴。そうだ、こんな日は自転車にまたがりちょい旅へでかけよう。
目指すは山口県下関市にあるゲストハウス「uzuhouse」最近オープンしたばかりのおしゃれなゲストハウス。すぐとなりには唐戸市場や赤間神宮といった観光スポットがあるのだが、今回の目的はUZUハウスのスタッフ「ウォーリー」に会いに行く。

小倉のまちから約10㎞とちょこっとサイクリングにはちょうどいい感じの距離だ。
写真は本州と九州を結ぶ「関門橋」。普段は車で上を通ることが多くてこの角度から眺めることはなかなかないのだが、圧巻の迫力だった。
橋は自転車では渡れないのでぼくは海の中を通るトンネルで対岸へ。

Today is my day off! The weather is nice! I decided to make a cycling trip to a recently opened guesthouse ”uzuhouse”which is located at Shimonoseki,Yamaguchi prefecture. Next to the guesthouse there’s a famous fish market called ‘Karato market”. Akama shrine is also a nice tourist spot to visit.
It’s 10km from Kokura city to Shimonoseki.Not too short not too far, it’s a perfect distance for cycling.
The bridge in the picture is Kanmon bridge that connects kyushu and Honshu island. Unfortunately cycling over the bridge is not allowed so you have to go through the Kanmon tunnel that goes under the sea.



トンネルをぬけて5分もこげば目的地「uzuhouse」に到着する。テンション高めのダンス？でスタッフのウォーリーと海ちゃんがお出迎えをしてくれた。そのからみ方は小さい頃近所にいたお世話好きのおじちゃんおばちゃんだ。
そんないつ会っても元気いっぱいのウォーリーとその影に隠れることのない濃いキャラクターの海ちゃんはここに訪れた人たちを笑顔にしてくれる力を持っている。常連さんや道ゆく人々が集まり、足を止め、旅の話や日常のあれこれを語り合っている。なんとも心地のいい時間と風景がこの場所には流れていた。

Uzuhouse is just 5 minutes away when you go out of the tunnel. Uzuhouse’s friendly staff, Wally and Umi-chan welcomed me with a big smile. This reminds me old lady and man in my neighborhood when I was a little kid.I always feel home here.



uzuhouseを後にして、帰りは船で九州まで戻る。もちろん自転車ものせて。「九州まで」と書くと大げさに見えてしまいそうだが、そこそこ激しい波に揺られ、心地よい風に吹かれること約5分。壇ノ浦の戦いの内容の船内アナウンスを楽しんでいると気がつけばそこはもう向こう岸。ほんの僅かな時間だったがとても楽しめた。今まで特別だった船旅がこれほど身近に感じられたことはなかったし、こんな風なまちの楽しみ方があったことに気づくことができてうれしく思えた。

さて、帰り道も安全運転でのんびり帰ろう。

On my way back to Kokura I took a ferry from Shimonoseki to Moji. It only takes 5 mins to cross the Kanmon strait. Kanmon strait is very rough　and fast flowing sea. You will see swirls eveywhere.
